RawDC - Pre-regulator Module
About

The ASM-2 board has onboard regulators that provide the regulated voltages that it requires. To minimise noise problems the power circuit on the ASM-2 does not include any of the AC voltage circuitry that is required when connecting the board to an external AC supply such as the mains power.

The RawDC board has been designed too fill this gap. It contains a bridge rectifier and filter capacitors and provides a pre-regulated DC voltage from an incoming low-voltage AC source, typically a transformer.

The RawDC board provides 2 pre-regulated outputs (+Ve and -Ve) from a dual/split secondary transformer. Selection of the transformer type and rating are discussed here.

This board can be used with any dual-rail power supply that requires a non-regulated or pre-regulated power supply and is ideal for assisting with remote mounting of the mains transformer and associated componentry.

! WARNING !
Readers should be aware that constructing this circuit involves working with mains power components. Readers are advised that they should not attempt this module unless they are fully aware of the various safety requirements relating to this type of circuitry. There are several good ready-made designs that the reader should consider if there is any doubt or concern regarding the building and use of this module.
